The Revd. Lydia Thangadurai
Assistant Curate
Lydia was ordained as a Deacon in February 2022 at St. Paul’s Cathedral
and is now appointed as an Assistant Curate at St. John’s. She completed
her Master of Ministry and Graduate Diploma of Divinity at the
Australian College of Theology (Ridley College).
She came to Australia in 2006 from her hometown Bangalore, South India.
She speaks Tamil and can speak four other languages.
Lydia also has a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring Psychology from the
University of Bangalore, South India, and a Diploma in Hospitality
Management and Computer Software programming and Web Designing.
She preaches on a regular basis at St.John’s and takes services at the Aged
Care facilities and makes regular pastoral visits to the residential care to
pray with St. John’s parishioners. She is passionate about Hospital
Chaplaincy in providing pastoral care to people who are physically and
intellectually disabled.
Previously Lydia had an active role at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne
over ten years in lay positions, being an Altar Server, Reader, Intercessor,
Bible Study Group leader and Lay Deacon. She also worked there as a
Verger for three years, assisting at Weddings, Ordination services, State
Funerals and various Cathedral events.
As well as being a Chorister with Victoria Chorale, Lydia loves running,
participating in fun runs raising money for charities, calligraphy, rock
painting. She also enjoys nature and being a numismatist.
